Troop 4 Parents Committee Minutes
September
22 Meeting
Attendees: J. Cardoza, M. Pillsbury, T. Pillsbury,
J. Motlow, C. Harvey, F. Arthur, L. Kelley, P. Netsch, M. Thomas, B.
Phua, S. Ariganello, A. Hall, J. Bocks, K. Parker. Meeting called
to order at 7:40 pm.
Agenda Items:
Friends of Scouting
Bart Schenone, a member of the Piedmont Council Executive Board, spoke
to the group about this year's Friends of Scouting Fundraising Campaign.
The council's suggested donation is $200 per family; however Bart stressed
that donations of any amount are greatly appreciated. If your employer
matches charitable contributions, be sure to check the appropriate box
on the pledge form. Per Bart's presentation, the council's annual cost
of the scouting program is $434 per Scout. It was suggested to Bart that
it would be useful if the council would provide a more detailed breakdown
of what is included in that figure. Frank A. volunteered to follow-up
with Jo Hazlett at the Scout office about obtaining that information.
Scoutmaster's Report
Larry K. encouraged everyone to make their FOS donations at the meeting
if possible (FOS donations made later can go to Irene N., FOS chair).
He also reminded everyone to pay their annual $20 Troop 4 dues. Those
checks go to Linli Lee P., Treasurer.
Larry discussed the fact that he wants to cultivate an environment in
Troop 4 where every boy who is active in the troop and wants to progress
to Eagle may do so. The best way to achieve this is to do some work on
advancement at each meeting. He would appreciate it if the parents would
help foster the expectation with their scouts that they work on advancement
at meetings. To keep the boys moving along, Larry has made the following
plan: he will work with the candidates for Tenderfoot and 2nd class,
Arden will work with 1st class, Rob with Star & Life and Ramon with
Eagle candidates.
Larry also said that he has not finalized this year's calendar because
he wants to explore with parents the idea of possibly doing a longer campout
during Spring Break in April. He is thinking of perhaps a 4 day trip to
someplace a little further away, like Death Valley. No final decisions
were made at the meeting.
The pros and cons of returning to Camp Oljato for summer camp were also
discussed. A committee to explore the possibility of attending a different
summer camp was formed; those who volunteered were Pat N, Larry K. &
John B.
Recruitment
May T. discussed the need for the troop to recruit more boys. If you have
friends with younger boys, please encourage them to visit our troop.
Treasurer's Report
Bill P. gave the Treasurer's report for Linli Lee P. The troop's net income
for the last year was $496. The troop's current bank balance is $5,875.
Training
Matt B. and TJ T. completed a week of leadership training
at Brownsea Leadership training this past summer. Also, Leadership Training
for new patrol leaders will be this Saturday Sept. 24 at 9 am at Corpus
Christi Church. Kevin A., Eric N. & Tom P. will attend.
Next Meeting
Due to lack of time, Frank A. tabled the follow agenda items until the
next meeting: driver reimbursement, first aid/water safety, renaming the
committee.
Meeting adjourned at 9:08 pm. Dates for future Parents Committee meetings
still to be determined. Parents will be notified when dates are chosen.
-Kathy P., Troop Secretary
