December 13 Meeting
Attendees: Bill P.,
May T., John B., Arden H.l, Chris H., Sal A., Rob P., Frank A., Larry
K., Kathy P. Meeting called to order at 7:40 pm.
Slide Show
Arden H. presented a slide show of the 50-mile high adventure trip last
summer.
Scoutmaster's Report
Larry K. reminded everyone to make Friends of Scouting donations. So far
only 7 families have contributed. (Frank A. mentioned that he did meet
with Jo Hazelett of the Piedmont Council to discuss how the FOS money
is spent. He will circulate a memo about this to everyone in the troop
via email.) December 23 is take-down day for the Scout Tree Lot. Adult
& Scout volunteers are needed . Please arrive at the Tree Lot around
9 am if you are able to help. On Dec. 12 the troop hosted Pack 4 at their
meeting . Going forward, the troop will host a Cub Scout pack at one meeting
out of every four. The snow camping trip will be Jan. 21-23. The format
will be the same as last year; the first night will be spent at the Kelleys’
cabin and the second night will be snow camping. John B. is going to work
with the boys to build sleds to haul their gear. At least one meeting
before the campout will be devoted to an equipment check, to ensure that
everyone is well prepared for the trip. Larry thanked Rob Postar for preparing
the calendar for the remainder of the year. It will be emailed to everyone.
The troop will be returning to Camp Oljato for summer camp from June 25-July
2. Sal A. expressed an interest in trying a different summer camp in the
future and will do some research on possible camps.
Recruitment
Per May T., our tentative Open House date for this year is February 27.
She will make sure that there are no conflicts with this date and begin
planning the event. She would appreciate any suggestions.
Fundraising
Rob P. suggested a possible fundraising idea for the troop. A company
called Collective
Good pays for recycled phones, pagers, PDAs & printer cartridges.
The troop could collect these items from people or businesses and receive
money for them.
Driver Reimbursement
Rob P. asked that the committee consider reimbursing drivers on campouts
for the cost of fuel. A motion was made, seconded and carried to do so.
First Aid/Water Safety
Rob P. suggested that more parents be trained in first aid and water safety.
There is a BSA “Safe Swim/Safety Afloat” course that can be
completed online in about an hour. Visit www.scouting.org.
The Piedmont Council
also offers training in first aid.
Committe Name
Rob P. said that the Troop 4 Parents Committee
is improperly named and that the correct name should be “The Troop
4 Committee”. Henceforth the group will go by the new name.
50-Miler for Summer 2006
Arden H. & Rob P. are tentatively planning
to lead the 50 miler again this summer. Many boys have expressed interest
in going. Rob & Arden will lead some qualifying hikes before the 50
miler, so boys can make sure they really are ready to take it on.
Treasurer's Report
Bill P. reported for Linli L. that we still
need dues from several people. Please send your $20 check to Linli if
you haven’t paid. The Troop’s net income for the year was
$207, and the current bank balance is $5,586.
Training
Sal A. reported that
a High Adventure Training Course is being offered in January. Sal also
said that he can conduct a New Leaders Essentials training course for
parents in our troop if there is an interest.
Merit Badge Counselors
Larry K. would like to generate a published list of troop parents who
can act as merit badge counselors. He will send out an email asking people
to sign up as merit badge counselors, based on what they have expertise
in.
Quality Unit Award
Kathy Parker mentioned that the Troop has just completed it’s annual
rechartering & has once again earned the Quality Unit Award. The Scoutmaster
& Asst. Scoutmasters are the ones who do the work required to earn
this award and they deserve to be commended for it.
Meeting adjourned at 9:20 pm. Next meeting: March
23, 2006.
